1. Terms of Use

By accessing SCRIPT, you agree to be bound by these terms of use, all applicable laws and regulations, and accept responsibility for compliance with any applicable local laws. If you do not agree with any of these terms, you are prohibited from using or accessing this platform.

SCRIPT is a private screenplay library platform. Access is restricted to authorised users only. You agree to use this platform solely for educational, research, and creative study purposes. You may not redistribute, publish, or commercially exploit any content found on this platform. All screenplay content is the intellectual property of their respective authors and rights holders.

Unauthorised sharing of login credentials is prohibited. We reserve the right to terminate access for any user who violates these terms.

2. Use Licence

Permission is granted to access materials on SCRIPT for personal, non-commercial, educational viewing only. This is a grant of access, not a transfer of title. Under this licence you may not:

  • Modify or copy the materials for distribution;
  • Use the materials for any commercial purpose or public display;
  • Attempt to scrape, mirror, or systematically download content;
  • Remove any copyright or other proprietary notations from materials;
  • Transfer the materials to another person or mirror them on any other server.

This licence shall automatically terminate if you violate any of these restrictions.

3. User-Generated Content

If you upload content to SCRIPT, you represent that you have the legal right to do so and that the content does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights.

We operate under DMCA safe harbour provisions. If you believe content on this platform infringes your copyright, please contact us at the address in Section 12 with a formal DMCA takedown notice including: identification of the copyrighted work, identification of the infringing material, your contact information, and a statement of good faith belief.

4. Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us. It is SCRIPT's policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect from you across this platform.

We collect only the information necessary to provide the service: your email address, display name, and reading progress. We do not sell, share, or monetise your personal data. Your reading progress and annotations are stored securely and are only accessible to you. We use Supabase for data storage, hosted on AWS infrastructure with SOC 2 compliance.

We will process your personal information lawfully, fairly, and in a transparent manner. We collect and use your information only where it is necessary to provide the service, satisfies a legitimate interest not overridden by your privacy rights, or where you have given consent for a specific purpose.

You may request details of, correction to, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you at any time by contacting us. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days.

5. Information We Collect

Account data: Email address and display name provided at registration.

Reading data: Scroll position, reading progress, and annotations you create. This data is private to your account.

Log data: When you visit the platform, our servers may log standard data including your IP address, browser type and version, pages visited, and time of visit.

Device data: We may collect data about the device used to access the platform, including device type and operating system.

We do not keep personal information for longer than necessary and will protect it within commercially acceptable means to prevent unauthorised access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification.

6. Cookies & Local Storage

We use browser local storage to store your preferences such as night mode and reading state. This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers beyond what is needed to sync your reading progress.

Authentication session tokens are stored by Supabase in local storage to keep you signed in. You can clear these at any time by signing out or clearing your browser's local storage.

7. AI & Automated Data Collection

You agree not to use automated means — including web scrapers, robots, crawlers, data mining tools, or artificial intelligence systems including large language models — to access, query, scrape, copy, or download content from this platform for any purpose, including:

  • Training or fine-tuning AI models, large language models, or machine learning systems;
  • Creating datasets for AI training or development;
  • Systematic downloading or copying of screenplay content;
  • Reproducing or storing substantial portions of content in any medium.

We do not use the screenplays in our library, user data, or any content submitted by users for training AI models. Your data is not shared with third parties for the purpose of AI training. Any changes to this policy will be communicated to users in a timely manner.

Unauthorised automated use violates these terms and may result in termination of access and pursuit of all available legal remedies. Limited exceptions may be granted only with explicit written permission.

8. Fair Use

SCRIPT provides screenplays solely as an educational resource for students, scholars, and aspiring screenwriters studying the craft of screenwriting. Our use of these materials is non-commercial and intended to facilitate learning, criticism, and commentary on the art of screenwriting. We believe this use falls within the scope of fair use as defined by United States copyright law.

Pursuant to 17 U.S. Code § 107 — Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use — the fair use of a copyrighted work for purposes such as criticism, comment, teaching, scholarship, or research is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether a use constitutes fair use, the following factors are considered:

  • The purpose and character of the use, including whether it is of a commercial nature or for non-profit educational purposes;
  • The nature of the copyrighted work;
  • The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the work as a whole;
  • The effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

SCRIPT's use is non-commercial, the works are published screenplays made available for study, access is restricted to registered users for educational purposes, and we do not compete with or substitute for the market for the original works.

9. Copyright Claims & DMCA

SCRIPT will promptly address and remove any content alleged to infringe upon copyright or other intellectual property rights. Upon receiving a formal request or notification, we will diligently assess and, where appropriate, expeditiously remove the infringing material.

To submit a DMCA takedown notice, please contact us (see Section 12) with:

  • Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed;
  • Identification of the material on our platform that you claim is infringing;
  • Your contact information (name, address, telephone number, email);
  • A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
  • A statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are authorised to act on behalf of the copyright owner;
  • Your physical or electronic signature.

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of California. You irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in that jurisdiction.
